Fake Internet Antivirus Pro and Kaspersky Netbook Security

As stated throughout this website, there are many rouge fake antivirus. The latest variant affects Windows Systems and looks as though it is a genuine antivirus program. The hackers took time to program in all of the same features that a real free antivirus would have. The most disturbing is integration into the Windows Security Center. So, rather than some rouge program alerting the user to a virus it seems as if the alert is actually coming from Windows. I believe this is the first time that a fake antivirus has been able to register itself into the Windows Security Center. In addition, the program asks for a registration key. The only way to get that key is to pay $49.99. One may ask what you get in return. Well you get a non working antivirus and you also get a trojan that steals your login information. Great deal!
The story does end out good for the consumer though. Microsoft frequently releases malware software tools patches. The most recent for the week of June 10 includes signatures to automatically remove the fake antivirus after the program is installed ones computer. Therefore, it should only be a few days until all of the virus is eradicated.

I recently wrote in an article on how netbooks are being shipped with viruses preloaded on to them. That was devastating considering that most netbook users don't have antivirus installed on them. The reason why user's don't install netbook software is because normal antivirus will take up too much memory and processing power to operate efficiently. This is were Kaspersky has filled the void and created an excellent netbook antivirus program. In fact, the antivirus software is designed to only specifically run on netbook's with Intel's Atom, Via's C7-M, or Intel's Celeron Mobile processor. The company also boldly claims that the software will only run on netbooks with the supported specifications.
The Kaspersky website stated that the software will run on computers with only 256 megabytes of RAM and 50 megabytes total of hard drive space. Also consider that AV comparatives gave the Kaspersky virus engine an "Advanced+" rating which is its highest virus protection rating. One can practically be certain that all known viruses will be detected.
